1. Drive Time (Be Realistic)
We’re in Youngsville, straight up US-1 North (Capital Boulevard) from Raleigh. For North Raleigh and the northern Wake County towns, that’s often quicker than crossing town in traffic.

2. Lane Count and Lane Length
Few lanes means long waits. We run 20 indoor lanes, including five 75-foot lanes for longer pistol and rifle work, plus a separate 10-lane Digital Live Fire bay. Walk-ins usually get a lane quickly on weekdays.
3. Indoor or Outdoor?
Here’s the honest version.
Pick an outdoor range if you need 100-yard-plus rifle distance or want to sight in a hunting rifle at hunting range.
Pick an indoor range if you want to shoot in July heat or January rain, practice handgun skills at realistic defensive distances, or bring a beginner who’d rather not stand in a field. Our range is climate-controlled with commercial ventilation, so a 95-degree afternoon doesn’t matter.
4. Rentals You Can Actually Try
A good rental counter is a free test drive before a big purchase. Our firearm rentals cover common handguns and rifles, and the gun store is twenty steps away if you fall for one.
5. Real Instruction, Not Just Supervision
Ask any range one question: who teaches here, and what? We run a full firearms training program with NRA-certified instructors, from Handgun 101 through defensive pistol, plus the state-approved NC concealed carry class and one-on-one private instruction.
6. Safety Culture
Watch the range safety officers. Are they on the line or behind a desk? Ours stay on the line for every session. New shooters get an orientation, holster draws happen only in supervised classes, and cease-fires are enforced without exception. Read our full range safety rules before you visit.

There are several in the Triangle. Capitol Range & Firearms is about 25–30 minutes north of downtown Raleigh on US-1, with 20 indoor lanes, rentals, training and a gun store on-site.
