What Can You Do at the Range?
Capitol Range is built for people who want to practice, learn, or try something new. You do not need to be an expert shooter to visit. Staff members are available to help guests understand the process and follow all range procedures.
Visitors can choose from two main shooting experiences:
- Traditional indoor lanes use printed targets for standard target practice. Reservations are required for these lanes.
- Digital Live Fire lanes use real ammunition with digital, reactive targets. These lanes can include drills, games, and training scenarios. Reservations are recommended because demand can be high.
The range also offers firearm rentals, allowing guests to try handguns, rifles, shotguns, suppressors, and select machine guns without bringing their own firearm. Renters must be at least 21 years old for handguns or machine guns and at least 18 for rifles or shotguns.
What First-Time Visitors Need to Do
First-time visitors can use the range without becoming members. Before shooting, guests should create an account, watch the required safety video, sign the digital waiver, and purchase a yearly range access ca rd.
The annual range card costs $15. Non-members then pay $25 per hour for one person on a lane, or $40 per hour for two people sharing a lane. An additional person may share a lane for $15 per hour.

Do You Need Your Own Firearm?
No. Capitol Range offers firearm rentals for visitors who do not own a firearm or want to try a different model. The range also has eye and ear protection available.
Rental firearms must be used with ammunition purchased from Capitol Range at the time of rental. This helps the staff maintain safe equipment standards and support a reliable range experience. If you bring your own firearm, ask a Range Safety Officer if you have any questions about approved ammunition.
Safety Rules to Know
Safety is the most important part of every range visit. Capitol Range requires a valid government-issued ID for adults entering the range. Guests must follow directions from the Range Safety Officer at all times.
Important rules include:
- Wear eye and hearing protection at all times on the range.
- Keep firearms unloaded until you are on the firing line and told to load.
- Keep the firearm pointed downrange.
- Use only controlled fire.
- Do not handle firearms behind the firing line.
- Do not shoot at another lane’s target.
- Keep food, drinks, gum, and smoking materials out of the range.
- Ask staff for help if you have a malfunction or safety concern.
The range permits pistol calibers and rifle calibers up to .308 Winchester or 30-06 Springfield. Shotguns may be used with slugs only, except during shotgun classes. Steel, aluminum, steel-core, green-tip, tracer, armor-piercing, and incendiary ammunition are not allowed.

Can Children and Teens Visit?
The standard minimum age to participate is 10 years old. Young shooters must be able to safely stand, see over the bench rest, and handle the firearm without help.
Anyone under age 18 must be with a parent or guardian who is at least 21 years old at all times. Capitol Range may deny range access if staff have safety concerns. Parents and guardians are responsible for making sure young shooters understand and follow all range rules.
Training for New and Experienced Shooters
Capitol Range offers training for shooters at many skill levels. Beginners can learn firearm safety, proper grip, stance, and other basic skills. More experienced shooters can take advanced handgun training, red-dot training, private instruction, and concealed-carry classes.

Membership or Walk-In Visit?
A membership is not required. Walk-in visitors are welcome after completing the safety steps, signing the waiver, and purchasing the annual range access card.
